The school’s counseling services program supports students in their academic, career, and personal-social development.  Counseling is a complex process of helping people by assisting them in decision making and behavioral evaluation.  All students have voluntary access to the school counselors whose time management focuses foremost on direct, one-on-one delivery of service to students.  Counseling is a non-coercive, voluntary, and respectful process characterized by trust and confidentiality.  Confidentiality is maintained by the counselor unless there is a clear and present danger to the student or others, consultation is needed, the student waives confidentiality, or compliance with the laws of Vermont is an issue.  The school counselors refrain from imposing or encouraging the counselee’s acceptance of values, lifestyles, plans, decisions, or beliefs which represent only the counselor’s personal orientation.  Though individual counseling is the paramount activity of the counseling program and its participants, the school counselors also contribute to consultations and coordination of services with other educators, families, and service agencies.  The Counseling Services Program is congruent with the Mission Statement of Williamstown Middle High School and the Codes of Ethics of the American Counseling Association and the American School Counselor Association.
