WMHS Gateway Assessments
Overview:
“We believe education is a life long process. We believe every citizen has a responsibility to his or her community; we believe every student has a responsibility to his or her school community. … We believe that every child has a right to an education that provides strong foundational knowledge and skills…” – quoted from the WMHS Mission Statement
It has been with this mindset that we have developed the Gateway Assessment.
The Gateway is a rigorous, meaningful, comprehensive and reflective assessment of the Graduate Descriptors at three levels. Typically, Gateway Level I is assessed at the end of 8th grade, Gateway Level II at the end of 10th grade, and Gateway Level III prior to graduation. The students will, with guidance, accumulate a body of work in a portfolio from various classes and evaluate and reflect on each piece as it relates to the Graduate Descriptors. The students will present their portfolio, at each level, to a qualified committee. At each Level an exhibition piecee will also be incorporated.
